Curing the Health Care Crisis

The Saint Barnabas-Metrowest Independent Physicians' Association (IPA) has established a Health Care Speaker's Bureau that provides speakers to local organizations to discuss the current health care crisis in New Jersey and beyond.

"The public certainly perceives a problem in health care, and they are eager, to hear some straight information," explains Paul Zauber, M.D., Chairman of the IPA Speakers'

Bureau and Section Chief of Hematology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. "Our goal is to educate the community about the issues that caregivers are struggling with, like managed care, the plight of hospitals, the cost of technology, access to quality health care, the rising number of uninsured, and malpractice issues. These are complex questions, but in my experience people come away with a better understanding of the problems"

Thus far, the Speakers Bureau has fulfilled requests from corporations and community groups large and small. Usually, two speakers are assigned to an engagement; they provide a 45-minute talk followed by a question and answer period.

All physicians are urged to participate. One of the most important roles of a physician is to educate their patients and society in general about their personal health, as well as public health issues. As a physician, you appreciate the current problems and their implications for the future better than anyone.

If you would like to volunteer as a member of the Speakers' Bureau or know of an organization that may be interested in hosting an educational program,  please call the office.

During the restructuring of the IPA, the Speaker's Bureau is not actively scheduling events. Please check back in the future.
